Route guide
Messina to Reggio Calabria ferry
Messina–Reggio Calabria is the fast city-centre passenger crossing of the Strait of Messina. Liberty
Lines operates high-speed passenger vessels directly between the two cities, avoiding the
vehicle-ferry terminals used by the Messina–Villa San Giovanni route.
Liberty Lines publishes a 30 minute Messina-to-Reggio journey. The service is especially useful for
rail, city-centre and foot-passenger trips because both ends are urban transport hubs.
This route is not the vehicle ferry. Travellers taking a car, motorcycle, camper or bicycle should
compare the C&T Messina–Villa San Giovanni crossing instead.
Before booking, compare the complete itinerary rather than only the headline departure time. Check
every intermediate call, the exact arrival time, the vessel type and the operator-specific boarding
deadline. For island routes, also confirm local vehicle restrictions and the arrival harbour; for
Strait crossings, choose the port pair that matches whether you are travelling on foot or with a
vehicle. A small difference in sailing time can be outweighed by a much better onward connection.
If you are connecting to accommodation, another ferry or ground transport, leave a sensible margin
after the scheduled arrival. Weather, port traffic and boarding operations can occasionally affect
the final timing.
